Billed as the “Sitting Around, Playing Some Songs Tour”, Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne began their 4 show acoustic duo tour on Friday night, January 13th, at Club Red in Telluride Colorado.  Both performers played acoustic guitars and Greene also played keyboards.  The two-set show saw the singer-songwriters alternate between Greene and Osborne penned songs including rarities like Greene’s “1961” and Osborne’s “Lola”. Each  performer’s song tended to see the other playing an extended solo.  In addition to commendably adding to each other’s songs, the two also had a knack for choosing follow up songs of their own that complemented their companion’s previous choice – musically, thematically, or both. This gave the evening a pleasurable flow. For example, at the conclusion of Greene’s “Till the Light Comes”, which ends with an ethereal and floating coda to the song’s main theme, Osborne seemed truly moved and stated what a great song it was and that it inspired him to follow up with “Born to Die Together”, which had a similar musical feel and structure and fit perfectly into the moment.  Anders debuted a new song “I’m Your Friend” which he said he had finished only a couple of days earlier and joked that it was perhaps the only song they had actually rehearsed together.  Two cover tunes, the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha” and “New Speedway Boogie” were also played.  The chemistry between Jackie and Anders was evident as they joked with one another and also remarked about the possibility of continuing to perform together.
