From Good Homes (FGH) ventured outside of their east coast home on March 20, 2017 to play a rare show in Colorado for the Fox Theatre’s 25th Anniversary series. The New Jersey-based band whose genre has been called “Hick-Pop” had been one of the first to play the Fox when it opened 25 years ago. The band was at the top of its game when it disbanded in 1999, but it reunited ten years later in 2009 and since then plays only a handful of shows every year – mostly in the New York/New Jersey area (see our review of their annual New Jersey Christmas shows here).

FGH features lead singer/songwriter Todd Sheaffer (now best known as the lead singer/songwriter of Railroad Earth), three-time Grammy nominee and bassist Brady Rymer, singer/songwriter Patrick Fitzsimmons on drums, horn player and producer Dan Myers and talented multi-instrumentalist Jamie Coan on guitar, mandolin and fiddle. The show featured almost exclusively FGH originals except for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s Fire on the Mountain, perhaps played as a nod to the Boulder Canyon fire which had broken out just a day earlier but was thankfully contained by showtime. (Bonus blast from the past video: Watch FGH break out Fire on the Mountain for the first time at the Newton Theatre in 2015 – Re:Create Mag was there to capture it!)

Many Colorado fans of FGH, who were uncertain whether they’d ever get to see the band locally (or ever), described the lengthy, feel-good performance as a “bucket-list” experience. But hopefully this FGH show won’t be its last in Colorado — as FGH’s final song of the night had us wondering, “Maybe we will, but maybe we won’t, but maybe we will!”
